Vicenza to Lonigo

There are few things more annoying than reading endless blogs about beautiful towns and villages. Wouldn’t it be refreshing to read for once that we arrived in a cesspool of a place that smelled like sewer gas and looked like a dollar store exploded in the central square. Sorry, no such luck.  As far as I can tell Italian towns smell like jasmine and roses, and each one along the Via Postumia has been a treat. 

My ride today from the beautiful city of Vicenza (yes, I know you are falling asleep) to our current town, Lonigo (also beautiful), headed up into the hills and then followed a high ridge. The cycling and walking routes on the Via Postumia seek out beauty over efficiency. I could have taken a flat route, but then I would have missed the beautiful views. After plunging down into the valley the official route climbed up another ridge. I opted for a flatter second half and that led me through an area thick with cherry trees. One tree on the road side

dangled its berries in clumps large enough to pick a handful at once. I continued my ride eating and spitting the pits. 

We have now walked or cycled 1065 kms from Budapest. We are just past the halfway point in time of our journey and we remain on track to making it to Arles, France this year.  I’m still loving every day of the journey.
