Gaudi’s El Capricho 

Today we had a lovely walk through rolling hills that took us to the seaside town of Comillas by early afternoon.
From the second half of the 19th century until the middle of the 20th, Comillas was a popular summer place for Spanish royalty and the aristocracy. This has left a rich legacy of mansions and other structures from this period. Our particular interest was in Gaudi’s El Capricho.

El Capricho was one of Gaudi’s early commissions, built between 1883 and 1885. It was designed around the daily movement of the sun, with an innovative solarium to moderate the temperature in the house. As with all Gaudi structures it is full of clever and beautiful details that left us wondering “Could Don build that into our house or cabin?”
