Octogenarians

Some people are just made of different stuff than the rest of us. Generally I feel like I am pretty fit and strong for a woman of my age, but there a lots of women on the Norte who are in their sixties and seventies. Unlike me most of them don’t coast down the hills on a bicycle, but make the way all on foot.  While dining with a pair of these feisty women, one of them informed us that her friend, let’s call her Angela, is 81! I would love to look like Angela at 65 or 70. She and her friend have done a number of Caminos over the years and are keeping pace with Gord and I on this one. 
Yesterday I met Walt, who was originally from Edmonton, but now lives in California. Walt is a good looking guy that I placed at about Gordon’s age. When I mentioned that there is an 81 year old woman walking the route Walt responded by saying, “Well I guess I’m not the oldest on the route.” Walt  claims he’s 80! Now until I meet him again and actually see his passport we will consider him an unverified octogenarian, as at the moment it’s pretty hard to believe. 
As I sit in a cafe in Llanes eating my second breakfast consisting of the richest chocolate  and churros, I wonder what their secrets to healthy longevity are. I’m guessing it might not include churros, but oh my they are good.
